Temperate Woodland Vivarium Workshop

$395.00

No experience needed — just a love of living things.

In this 4 hour hands-on workshop, you'll build a thriving miniature woodland ecosystem entirely from scratch. Vivariums — self-contained living landscapes housed in glass — are part terrarium, part living sculpture, and entirely captivating. The temperate woodland style draws from the mossy forest floors, rocky outcroppings, and soft ferns of the Pacific Northwest and mountain West, creating a tiny world that feels ancient, quiet, and alive.

Working with real moss, woodland plants, soil substrates, stones, bark, and other natural materials, you'll learn the fundamentals of vivarium design — including layering for drainage and root health, selecting plants that thrive together, creating depth and visual interest, and understanding the ongoing care your vivarium needs to flourish long after class is over.

You'll leave with a completed vivarium ready to display in your home, a solid foundation in the principles of closed and open ecosystem design, and a new appreciation for the extraordinary complexity of the forest floor.

All materials are provided. No prior experience is necessary — beginners are not just welcome, they are the intended audience.

Held at Sacred Basecamp in Peterson, Utah, in a 1929 historic sanctuary surrounded by the natural landscape of the Morgan Valley. Let the mountains inspire what you build inside the glass.
